NFL
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, the highest professional level of American football in the world, the wealthiest professional sport league by revenue, and the sport league with the most valuable teams. The regular season is a 17-week schedule during which each team plays 16 games and has one bye week. Following the conclusion of the regular season, six teams from each conference (four division winners and two wild card teams) advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Super Bowl, which is usually held on the first Sunday in February and is played between the champions of the NFC and AFC.
NBA
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the premier professional basketball league in the United States and Canada. The NBA is widely considered to be the top men’s professional basketball league in the world.
The league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with the rival National Basketball League (NBL).
The NBA consists of 30 teams – 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada. The league is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB), which is recognized by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in the United States.
The NBA is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, which also include Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Hockey League (NHL).
NHL
The latest in NHL news is that the Tampa Bay Lightning have won the Stanley Cup. The Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars in game six of the Stanley Cup Finals to take home the trophy. This is the second Stanley Cup victory for the Lightning, who also won in 2004.
MLB
The Baltimore Orioles have reportedly agreed to a trade that would send pitchers Chris Tillman and Darren O’Day to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league prospects. The deal is pending a physical.
Tillman, 30, is a two-time American League All-Star who has spent his entire eight-year career with the Orioles. He went 13-6 with a 4.69 ERA in 31 starts last season.
O’Day, 34, has been one of the best relievers in baseball over the past few seasons, posting a 2.28 ERA and striking out nearly 10 batters per nine innings since 2014. He’s under contract through 2018.
The Angels are also reportedly close to signing free agent outfielder Justin Upton to a five-year deal worth around $106 million. Upton would fill a void in the Angels’ lineup left by the departure of former AL MVP Mike Trout, who is expected to miss six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his thumb.
