About The Hill
The Hill is a American political journalism newspaper and website published in Washington, D.C. since 1994. It is a top destination for news and information on American politics, policy, and legislation. The newspaper has won five Pulitzer Prizes.
History
A Senate appropriations bill in late 2017 appropriated $385 million for a new Capitol Visitors Center. At that time, the east side of the Capitol Hill neighborhood was undergoing significant development, including new office buildings, hotels, and residences. The architect of the Capitol stated that a Visitors Center was needed to accommodate the increasing number of tourists visiting the U.S. Capitol, which was struggling to keep up with growing visitor numbers.
Construction on the new Capitol Visitors Center began in late 2018 and is expected to be completed in early 2020. The center will be located underground, beneath the East Plaza of the U.S. Capitol Building. It will include a public waiting area, exhibits on the history of the U.S. Capitol, and a security screening facility for visitors entering the Capitol Building.
