She is the daughter of man named Ronald Housley who is a television producer and writer and a mother named Kathleen Francis who is an actress. When she was 15 years old, she changed her name from Vini Ames to Melissa Francis in order to pursue an acting career.

After high school, she attended Harvard University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics. While at Harvard, she was a member of the Fly Club.

After graduation, Francis began working as an anchor and reporter for CNBC—first as a substitute anchor for business news shows and eventually co-hosting her own show called Closing Bell.


Francis began her career as a actress, appearing in films such as Man, Woman and Child (1983) and The Babe (1992). She later transitioned to television, hosting programs such as CBS commander-in-chief forum in 2016.
